Everybody Loves Raymund

The Saga Continues…

A long long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, a blob grew inside a Macbook Pro 17″ Battery.

After removing the battery and storing it in a cool, dry place, it continued to grow. It’s now breaking out of its enclosure.

Soon it will pop and leak toxic juices. What did the big multinational fruit of a company do?

Nothing.

Sir,

Below is the response we have received from Apple regarding your swollen battery……unfortunately, Apple declined the coverage for your battery.

Thank you.

Greetings ____

Thank you for contacting AppleCare TSPS E-mail.

This email is regarding MACBOOK PRO (17-INCH CORE 2 DUO), with serial number W86490HKW0J, where the issue is swollen battery.

We reviewed the information provided by you about swollen battery on the machine. However, as per the article “http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2358“, the machine needs to be either in one year hardware warranty or should have support agreement(APP) enrolled on the machine for the battery to be covered. In this case as the machine is out of warranty, customer has to purchase the battery. Kindly, inform the same to the customer.

122358555, is the case number for your reference.

MY RESPONSE:

That is quite unfortunate.

First of all, I cannot access the article provided by Apple.

What I don’t understand is the reasons stated in their email.

The site indicates that

“We’re sorry.
We can’t find the article you’re looking for.

Please return to the Apple Support homepage.”

How convenient.

Second, the fact that the unit is beyond the warranty coverage does not mean Apple can just provide customers with defective batteries with a life span of 1 or 2 years. Thereafter, expect the unit to self-destruct without warning.

As regards the “support agreement (APP)” did they mean that I had to “buy” a package so make sure that their product is in good working condition?

The response of Apple is simply unacceptable.

Kindly forward this email to your superiors and Apple.

Macbook Pro 17″ Battery Bloating

L1020767, originally uploaded by Raymund G. Martelino.

I first had difficulty in clicking items in my screen using the trackpad. Initially I thought that it was dirty.

When I brought it to the technician, he immediately told me that it might be because of a bloated battery.

Bloated battery?!? When he removed the battery it was indeed bloated. I didn’t notice it because I had a speedball lifting the underside of the Mac.

I found out that there is a series of Macs that have defective batteries prompting Apple to initiate a recall. Apparently this is a problem for a lot of Macbook Pro users.

Calling Apple…
