Simple Lang Pero Rock! – ISDA Revolution T-Shirt Campaign

The past days, a lot of rescue efforts have been made for Ondoy victims…

Yet, still a lot of us have not been able to participate…

And maybe, up to now, some of us are still thinking of ways on how to help.

Sardinas ba? Bigas? Instant noodles? Madami ng nagbigay nun, eh… Lutong pagkain? Paano kung hindi makarating agad… At mapanis…Nakakatakot namang maka food poison…

Damit? Paano mo ibibigay ang mga damit? May fitting room ba dapat? Kung naka supot na agad… Paano kung ang makukuha ng isang pamilya na puro lalaki ay pambabaeng damit?

IsDa Revolution and Lyrics&Sheets Foundation tries to simplify it…

Everyone of us has more than 2 t-shirts. That’s for sure…

A donation of just one t-shirt is more than enough… Starting tonight, Wednesday… hanggang Saturday… you may bring your t-shirt… or t-shirts… just t-shirts… or cash… or checks… na ipambibili din namin ng t-shirts… sa KAMBI.

KAMBI. (Isang gimikan sa tabing kalye ng Sct. Rallos malapit sa corner ng Sct. Tobias. Malapit sa Behrouz. Nasa nasa kalye kaharap ng Music 21 sa Timog, Quezon City). We will accept donations from 7pm to 5am. Yup.. Tama ang basa mo ng oras… Para na rin walang traffic paghatid niyo. Sa karagdagang tanong… sumulat sa isda_revolution@yahoo.com. Sa mga nakabasa… paki repost naman…

What people have seen circulating online was the UERM video taken by a med student. On the other side of the river is barangay Rivera in San Juan, a densely populated area. Flood waters from the San Juan river reached as far as the second floors of homes.

Advisory: 2009 BAR EXAMS Postponed

j.nachura by you.

September 27 would have been the last day of the Philippine Bar Exams.

But due to inclement weather caused by typhoon “Ondoy”, Justice Antonio Eduardo B. Nachura announced on September 26 that the bar exams will be rescheduled for October 4, 2009.

Exams on the last Sunday of the bar exams are Remedial Law and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises.

As of this time, I’m still searching for a copy of the official announcement. Bar Matter No. 802.

From the New Balance Power Race Organizers:

We wish to inform you that the New Balance Power Run Raising Hope is postponed due to weather conditions making it impossible (flooding) to set up and stage it properly tomorrow morning. The new date of the NB Power Run is November 29, 2009, Sunday.  Same venue.  Weekends in between are fully booked.  Please mark your calendars and keep your race kits for additional perks.  Kindly check your favorite running blogs, radio, and other media announcements.  Thank you very much for your understanding.

There goes the long run for this week!

I need to find a way to do long runs before the QCIM.

Painting the town…

While waiting for the ferry trip to Corregidor, I scouted the area to grab a quick light breakfast.

Out by the dock is this man painting the bridge leading to the ferries.

Corregidor 10-Miler Photo Map

Map, originally uploaded by Raymund G. Martelino.

Tried my best to plot the route we took.

I know this is not very accurate.

I can’t seem to find a good satellite image of the island with roads and topography.

Roughly we passed by these areas:

1. McArthur Monument
2. Cliffside from North Dock
3. Japanese Memorial
4. Kindley Airfield
5. South Beach
6. Middleside
7. Trail
8. Water Reservoir/Zoo
9. Battery Way
10. Battery Hearn
11. Pacific War Memorial
12. Eternal Flame
13. Spanish Light House
14. Topside
15. South Beach

Conquer Corregidor 10-Miler (Test Run)

Some runners were invited to do a test run for the organizers of the Conquer Corregidor 10-Miler set on November 29, 2009. It’s a long weekend so it’s a good chance for runners looking for an out-of-town run to get out of the city and enjoy the sights of nature and learn a little history as well.

Only five (5) were able to make it. Marga Deona (RunRadio Executive Producer), Luis Arcangel (representing takbo.ph), Joms Paras and Carlo Dino(Pinoy Ultra Runners) and me. Led by Edward Kho, we ran a 10-mile route in Corregidor Island. But the results of the test run showed that we actually ran 10.56 miles or 17 kilometers in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Race Details

Target Date: November 29, 2009 (a long weekend because of Bonifacio Day)

Race Route: 10-miles (16.09 km). Around 70% road, 30% trail.

Degree of Difficulty: Difficult. Steep ascents, mixed road and trail. Both sunny and rainy weather conditions would add a different challenge to the race.

Target Number of Participants: 750 persons. Limited slots only. Plus, those who wish to spend the night before, there will be special rates for the Corregidor Inn. Some packages include food (buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner).

Fresh from the ferry. (From L-R: Edward, Me, Joms, Carlo [partially hidden], Luis and Marga)

We left Manila for Corregidor at 8am. We arrived a little before 10am. The sun was already up so high that time. I instantly regretted not bringing a hydration pack. I brought along two cameras with me two cameras but neglected to bring water. Smart!

First K.

The first kilometer was already challenging. From the drop-off point which was near the planned starting line, we immediately encountered the first ascent of the race route. There were two options for the starting leg of the race and both of them are steep climbs. Dashing too early come race day is definitely a bad idea. As we will later find out, the race course is not for the beginner or even average leisure runner.

First Mile.

So far so good. We were still up and running. Marga discovered though that it was not for her. So she hopped on one of the bikes of our guides. Teasing, taunting and giving us moral support along the way! She was the only rose among the thorns. Lucky girl. :p

Kindley Airfield.

Approximately 3 miles from the starting point.  This airfield is used by small aircraft.

Beating around the bush.

Marga: “The route is 70% road and 30% trail. You might wanna bring your trail shoes.” And trail shoes it was. I wore my Salomon XT Wings for this run. When we passed through these bushes my legs got cut by blades of grass. Aside from the grassy parts, the trails were laden with limestone rocks and twigs.

Making our mark.

Part of the reason why we were invited was to test the race route and make mile markers. And so we did. These served as our frequent breaks from the vertical inclines.

Walking.

I wouldn’t be ashamed to say that we walked some parts of the run. Perhaps it was a combination of several factors: the heat of the sun, the lack of breakfast that morning, dehydration, and of course the lavish climbs we had to do for every mile. Just when we thought we were going downhill already, we were stunned to see another sudden uphill.

Middleside Barracks.

What would be an excellent feature of this race is the generous serving of historical tidbits and landmarks a runner can experience seeing. Race participants can expect a visual overload of remarkable World War II ruins and amazing flora and fauna. We saw a lot of pretty birds and monkeys along the trail.

IMG_6236 by you.

The big guns.

Yes, it’s the one between our legs. That’s the the big bad barrel of Battery Hearn. Corregidor is known for its strategic location and its guns or battery of guns. These were used for the defense of the Manila Bay from invading Japanese forces.

Organizers of the race ensures that race participants get to see the grandeur of these weapons.

IMG_6240 by you.

Eternal Flame.

We had a blast sightseeing and taking photos. Towards the last leg of the race, participants will pass by the trail beside the Pacific War Memorial towards the Tail Side of the island. Expect to see this steel installation called the Eternal Flame. By this time, your ipod should be playing Tiffany’s hit. “Close your eyes…” Cheesy!

Tail Side.

Here’s a view of the Tail Side of the island. This area also marks the 9th mile of the race.

Tumi Launches Fall 2009 Line

Things I bring with me all the time:
  1. MacBook Pro 17″ with the Power Cord, mini mouse, USB hub
  2. Leica D-Lux 3 Point and Shoot Camera
  3. Nokia E90 Communicator
  4. Calendar Notebook
  5. Documents and Folders
  6. Books

Where do I put them all? At present I use a Victorinox laptop sleeve. But it bulges a lot once I start packing in the other stuff.

Luckily, a friend invited me to the launch of Tumi’s Fall 2009 Collection.  I saw some of the latest document and laptop bags they have that features the tough Ballistic Nylon fabric (or leather). The design is classic and elegant. And of course, it has all the space I need.

Did I get it? Not yet. Despite the 20% slash on the prices on the launch night, I opted to hold on to my credit card first. Impulse buying brakes activated! Will have to take another trip back to the Tumi store for a second look.

This larger laptop case has a lot going for it: an expandable main compartment, numerous organizer pockets inside and out and a versatile computer compartment that holds a 17″ or 15″ laptop. Made from Tumi’s signature ballistic nylon, this case features a removable accessory pouch, top carry handles and a removable, adjustable shoulder strap.

Look Ma’ Fish!

Snapshot taken while I was waiting for the Tumi Launch program in Greenbelt 5 to start.

I crossed over to GB 3 using the Makati Ave. walkway when I saw this mom and son pair playing by the pond under the rain.
