CIHM: Sweet Emotions
For those who were part of this event, whether as an organizer, volunteer, or participant, the Corregidor International Half-Marathon was a roller coaster of emotions.
These photos express some of the feelings and experiences of those who shared a bond on that historic island.
We made memories. We made history.
One for all. All for twenty one.

CIHM: Session Road with Miro of Stonefree
After they raced in the Corregidor International Half-Marathon Session Road and Miro roked the Rock during the event’s Victory Party.

It was raining until 9pm so we started the party a little later than scheduled.
Tranvias parked beside the stage made the experience even more interesting.

Hooters TV Held Hostage :)
If in the PH the Azkals are making a lot of noise, what more in a football country like SG?
It was a big deal that the Pinoys forced a draw with SG and subsequently a 2-Nil win over defending champs Vietnam.
People in SG are in shock as the PH team leads Group B of the AFF Suzuki cup.
And since we were there for a few days we did not let the chance to watch a game in one of the bars pass.
Our search for a big screen led us to Hooters in Clarke Quay. The PH was going up against Myanmar while SG was playing against Vietnam.
We were lucky that Hooters was not full with locals. We sat in front of the tv and asked the manager to switch the channel to the PH game.
Our team played excellent defense and displayed superb passing all throughout the game. Too bad we were not able to convert the advantage over Myanmar. Anyway, we are guaranteed a semi-finals slot.
PH plays Indonesia in Jakarta, Indonesia next for the semis. Why not at home? That’s another story.
Go Azkals!
Silent Nights
For months we have endured week nights and weekends of music blaring along our block.
But what does this mean? Will the proprietors call it quits?
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth “
Der Räuber (The Robber)
Who said there’s no money in running?
The Robber (German: Der Räuber) is a 2010 film directed by Benjamin Heisenberg. The film is based on a novel “On the Run”, by the Austrian author Martin Prinz. The movie was shot on location in Vienna, Austria. It was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. Catch the film in the Cine Europa at the Shangrila Plaza Mall.

Andreas Lust plays Johannes Rettenberger a top-level marathon runner who robs banks in his spare time.
Rettenberger robs banks in wearing a mask and his running shoes. His weapon of choice: a pump action shotgun.
The real life “Pump-gun Ronnie”.
Harry Hamsterdamn
I got this text from E while I was in a dinner function: “The little boy sa tabing unit natin just rang our bell. And guess what? He gave you a hamster!!! Nasa box! Allergic daw kasi sila. Am freaked out but can’t refuse it. Yikes! What do we do with this?!” Halfway reading the text I was laughing myself out loud in my seat. E is freaked out by the sight or even the thought of rodents.
When I got home this is what I saw on our foyer:
I cracked up in laughter! I checked the contents of the box but it felt light and empty.
When I got in bed, E went for a shower. I jumped up when I heard her shriek. The hamster got out and he was in our bedroom!
I spent the night waiting for it to come out while E cringed in bed. I lured it out of hiding by putting a piece of pan de sal with peanut butter inside the box.
He came in this box. But he chewed his way out so I reinforced it with an old shoe box.
The next day we got him a new loft with a view. It’s fully furnished, with a spacious living and dining area. Of course for his running training and speed drills he can use the bundled treadmill.
Hamsterdamn immediately jumps in the food bin. I placed a few hamster pellets and a piece of pan de sal.
The sleeping room I filled with newpaper shreds and a piece of bread for snacking.
How can you let go of this little critter?
Jules and Monty live right next door to us. Monty likes playing tricks on people on the elevator. One time he placed an real-sized rubber python snake that can scare the living wits out of anyone. He even got me with that prank.
Fixing the other hamster house.
I think Hamsterdamn likes his new house better than the old box and this pink pad. The pet litter though is a hit for the loft house.
I’ll have to take care of him in the meantime until somebody volunteers to get him from us. But knowing Jules and Monty, I bet they’d want him to stay next door to them.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
It feels good to be home.
I just came back from a trip down in Cebu for work. I flew in last Tuesday morning evading typhoon Basyang which was on her way to Metro Manila/Northern Luzon.
From my room window, you can see the weather in Cebu was not so hot and humid. It was cloudy and breezy. Apart from the occasional short showers, the weather was just right.
But the weather was the least of my concerns.
I had very limited time to accomplish what I had to do since I would be checking out and flying back to Manila the next day.
I had to rebook my flight for the next morning and rush my work.
Come the time to fly back, which was very early in the morning, the plane won’t fly because of a baggage compartment issue.
We got stuck in the airport for an hour before leaving!
But if there were a few consolations. I got to try out two new restaurants in Cebu I.T. Park.
I. Mooon Mexican Inspired Cafe
The Bar. Very nice Sun-Moon Painting.
Mooon’s Mexican Baby Back Ribs
II. Roma Mia – Italian
Nice interiors but they have to do something about the mosquitoes in the dark corners.
Spicy Italian Sausage Pasta
World Cup Woes
His name is Paul. I’m biting his head off!
Now all my World Cup bets are out.
The final game is between the Dutch and the Spaniards.
I would have preferred a match between Brazil, Argentina, Germany or Spain.
Dead Meat
“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”- Unknown
I used this running quote to motivate our students who are about to take the bar this year.
I forgot to tell them the other lesson of the story:
If they don’t run, they’re dead meat.
If they don’t start studying or fail to follow their study plans religiously, they end up as just another statistic.

Running Widow?
Is your partner a “running widow” (or widower)? Yes, there are such persons. There are also golf widows, computer widows and football widows. Basically they are those in a relationship with another who pay more attention to running, golf, computers or football.
You’re into running but he/she is not. You get up early on weekends (or sometimes even weekdays) for training runs. You talk about running with friends, family and even strangers. For guys, you have the patience to try out each and every running shoe model from every brand available but don’t have the patience to shop for other things.
The best piece of advice is that for both of you to bite the running bug. Rather than leave your partner at home, bring him/her, plus the kids. Of course, this remedy is the ideal. Some people may be immune from the running pandemic in the Philippines so it might not work.
An even better proposition is for you to take the time to evaluate your priorities. What’s certain is you need to compensate for lost time. It would be a tough balancing act. Nonetheless it has to be done.
The question left to be answered if things don’t work out is whether or not excessive running can be used as a ground for annulment or legal separation.
Found an old article online about a running widow that did a full-blown research on the effects of running on marriage. Posting the link for reference below:
